Who Doesn't Love the Planetarium?

Years ago, my husband and I belonged to a local science museum and planetarium. Yup, we're nerds like that. We enjoyed the museum and, once I learned of my husband's fascination with planetariums, the shows there too. Ahhh, I miss those days.

I can actually speak for this restaurant, as I was there this month! I used an Entertainment book coupon. The food was pretty good, & I'll definitely go back. The Mother's Crunch

After my OB/GYN gave me the okay to exercise again, 6 weeks after giving birth to my daughter, I decided to start right away. I hadn't worked out in weeks, and hadn't had a good, hard workout for quite a while longer. (Although I did continue long walks and yoga right up to, and on, the morning that my water broke, that did not provide the intensity of exercise that I was used to.) So, my workout routine began.

Much of my exercise timing now works around my daughter's naps. After all, sweating while my baby cries her lungs out doesn't make me feel great. (shocked?) Ab workouts usually come last for me, and by that time, my daughter typically starts fussing or crying. So, I face a fitness dilemma: tend to my daughter or complete my workout. Clearly, working out is not top of the list when a little screamer screams.

My solution? The Mother's Crunch. I lay my baby on my stomach, facing me, and do crunches, holding on to her as my weight. My daughter loves it...she usually relaxes and stops crying by the 3rd crunch, and sometimes even falls asleep on me! Adorable! And, I get to console my little gal while getting my workout in. For those who are not familiar with the Entertainment book, I highly suggest that you check it out. For a small fee (which tends to get higher each year or two), you buy a book filled with discounts at nice restaurants, fast food places, retail stores, dry cleaning, car washes, and even hotel rooms. Pretty much anything you might need. Plus, they now give you access to discounts on their website. This year's books (2011 books, which are good until November 1, 2011) are on sale for $5 with free shipping if you reserve your 2012 book (which is unlikely to be much more than $35, if that). That Big Belly... not so distant a memory

Yesterday, I walked through BJ's with my sleeping daughter in the cart, and ran into a very pregnant woman. Even though I, too, was very pregnant only 2 short months ago, I couldn't stop staring at her big, round belly, remembering the joys of pregnancy. Don't get me wrong: I LOVE LOVE LOVE being a mommy. But, I also loved being pregnant. Of course, there were aches, pains, stresses, & fears (What would labor be like? What would my child be like? Would she be okay? How will our family change? Yada yada yada). But, I really loved being pregnant... people don't always talk about the joys of prenancy.

Knowing that those little kicks in your belly were actually from your future child's feet, hands, elbows, knees. I mean, we all know that a baby (or fetus) exists inside a pregnant belly. Does anyone stop to think that just an inch (or so) below the skin that you see & touch, the baby-to-be's little limbs are kicking and making those bumps that you see? That those little ears have begun to work before you ever see them... and even recognize mommy's voice? That the baby-to-be has begun "breathing" amniotic fluid to prepare his/her lungs for breathing air when he/she is born? I loooooved thinking about these things! And, I loved knowing that no one else but me would ever carry my baby inside them. Pregnant women give all of their bodies & minds (whether or not they realize it) to that little being inside them (largely thanks to the hormonal joys). To me, it's just a very cool thing.

I absolutely adore my baby & wouldn't give her up for the world. But I have to say, being pregnant with her was quite wonderful as well :)

Here's one website that I have come to know and love. Groupon.com send you an email a day with a great deal in your area (you pick your area when you sign up). You can choose to buy it or not. If you do, and a minimum number of people buy it (that number is set by the company or Groupon), then you pay for it & get the deal. If that number of people do not buy it, you are never charged. It's that simple. They send deals for food, clothing, dental exams, eye glasses...the works. And best of all, the service is free! I have used this website before and never had a problem. I've bought groupons for Ciao Baby in Massapequa (delicious) & Nickolas James Bistro in Merrick (which I haven't used yet, but have enjoyed the restaurant before).

Welcome

Welcome to my blog! I decided to jump on the bandwagon of bloggers. Within this blog, I'll write about anything of interest to me at the time, so you might want to know a bit about me to decide whether or not to follow.

I am a very happily married 30-year old woman and a mom of a beautiful 2 month old girl. I am very close with my family. In May 2010, I graduated from law school and in May 2011, was admitted to practice law in New York State. That being said, I have had trouble finding appropriate employment. Currently, I am seeking part-time or per diem work so that I do not have to put my little girl into daycare.

Now, you should know one thing about me. I love good deals. I coupon clip and check sales, and I truly enjoy this. My father has told me that I will stop this once I am more financially stable (maybe this means having a full-time job?), but that is extremely unlikely. I get a thrill out of getting a good deal. So, my posts will likely include ideas on how YOU can get some of the deals that I get.

Like I mentioned, I gave birth to a wonderful little girl, Mikayla, in April 2011. As a new mom, I find a lot of my thoughts focused around the interests, needs, & goals of young women...most specifically, young women with hopes of having it all: family and career. So you can bet that if you decide to read my blog, you'll get to read about this as well.

A lot of other things interest me: skiing, calligraphy, knitting & crocheting, movies, physical fitness, psychology, making money (ahhh, the stock market, random business ventures, etc... as if no one else wants to make money), law, etc etc etc. So prepare to read about these areas as well.

I should warn you that I often do not censor myself as others do. I tell it like it is, or I simply don't tell it. After having recently been pregnant, I can easily tell you that I often found myself telling those who have never been pregnant about MANY odd (and sometimes downright gross) things that pregnant women go through. People like to censor. I do not. So, I warn you that what you read is how it is, or at least it is how it is in my book.
